Mexican fruit cups sprinkled with Tajin

I am daydreaming about a Mexico vacation and craving summer fruits.

Thank goodness for fresh quality and affordable produce at my local grocery store so that I can pretend I’m enjoying fruit from a Mexican street vendor.

This Mexican fruit cup can easily be made at home with seasonal fruits cut into long spears, stacked into clear plastic cups, drizzled with fresh lime juice and sprinkled with Tajín.

WHAT ARE MEXICAN FRUIT CUPS?

Mexican Fruit Cups are pretty self-explanatory – fresh fruit that is cubed or cut into long spears, and served in clear plastic cups and drizzled with fresh lime juice and sprinkled with Tajin.

Some folks also love a drizzle of Chamoy sauce on their fruit, but I like to keep the chamoy to mangos on a stick.

TYPES OF FRUIT for a Mexican fruit cup

If you love fresh seasonal fruits then you must seek it out from the street vendors of Mexico.  The type of fruit that typically is served in Mexican Fruit Cups varies depending on season and vendor. Some of my favorites are:

  • cucumbers
  • jicama
  • mango
  • watermelon
  • papaya
  • pineapple

WHAT IS TAJÍN?

Tajín is a simple seasoning made of mild chili peppers, sea salt, and lime.

What I love most about Tajín is that it does not contain any artificial flavors, artificial colors, sugar, or difficult-to-pronounce ingredients.

Tajín will make your mouth pucker with a zesty and savory citrus taste, then it ends with a mild heat.
