maine lobster tacos

I get irritated when I hear Mexican food is all about tacos, because it’s not. And then here I go again making tacos. As much as Mexican food is not just tacos, you can’t go wrong with them. They are just so darn yummy! And these are no ordinary tacos. These are filled with fresh lobster meat. To be honest I had never cooked lobster and I was a bit intimidated. What if I screw it up?

I was sent fresh picked lobster meat from Maine. You should have seen me when I heard the doorbell ring. I was so excited. I was in the comfort of my own home, wearing yoga pants, and fresh lobster meat was being delivered to little ol’ me. I felt like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex in the City ogling over Manolo Blahnik’s as I held the package of lobster meat in my hands. I felt special and fancy. Kinda silly when I think about it now.

I was going to save the lobster for Valentine’s Day but I just couldn’t wait. I wanted to share my experience with you, so that you have time to order lobster and skip the high-priced fancy restaurant and make your loved one a romantic dinner at home.

The hard work was already done for me. The lobster was caught, cooked, and delivered. All I had to do was chop it up and basically warm it up in a butter sauce with garlic, lime juice, and red pepper flakes. The key with lobster meat is not to overcook it or the meat will be tough and stringy.

Who would have thought that lobster and tacos would be in the same sentence, but believe me when I say they are my new favorite taco. I’ve had lots of tacos in my life, but when I tasted these gourmet tacos I died and went to taco heaven. They were so delicious and the best part is they were so easy to make. Chopping and prepping the toppings is what took the bulk of my time.

Since I was sent high-quality meat I wanted fancy toppings. I love avocados so of course I added them, but rather than raw avocado slices or traditional guacamole I grilled slices of avocados. That alone gave the tacos so much more flavor. I also added crunchy red cabbage, a chipotle crema, fresh pico de gallo, and chiles toreados on the side for a little spice. All these ingredients in a warm corn tortilla with the buttery, sweet, rich, and tender lobster meat was mouthwatering.

Sure lobster might be a little extravagant or a little on the pricey side but for a special occasion it is worth the splurge. Order lobster for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner or for a Friday night during the Lenten season. These pescetarian tacos are full of flavor and worth every penny – simple and amazing. These tacos literally have me dreaming of converting an Airstream into a taco truck and serving homemade lobster tacos.
