Chamomile Tea and Cinnamon Tea – Abuela’s Remedios

Wow, it has been two whole weeks since my last post. I have been quite busy with a very big project. I will tell you all about it in a few weeks, I promise. I’m very excited about it and look forward to sharing the news with you soon.

Now I’m busy packing up to travel to Miami for Hispanicize 2014 as a Clabber Girl Brand Ambassador. While there, I will be speaking at a couple of different sessions: Diversifying Your Business Beyond Your Blog and Sobre Mesa Get a Taste of What’s Simmering at the Homes of the new and diverse U.S. families. If you plan to attend Hispanicize I’d love to meet you there. I’m especially looking forward to warmer weather and breathing in the ocean’s salt air.

With spring in the air and the weather changing here in Colorado my children have had the sniffles off and on and so we have all been drinking extra liquids, especially herbal teas. I recently wrote a story about home remedios (remedies) for Latin Lover magazine and wanted to share a couple of tea recipes I drank as a child and still make today. If your grandma was anything like my grandma I have a feeling you will really enjoy my story.

Chamomile Tea (Té de Manzanilla) and Cinnamon Tea (Té de Canela)

Ingredients:

Chamomile Tea (Té de Manzanilla):

  • 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers or a chamomile tea pouch
  • 3 cups water
  • Honey

Cinnamon Tea (Té de Canela):

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 Mexican cinnamon stick, whole
  • Honey to taste

Directions:

Chamomile Tea (Té de Manzanilla):

  1. Bring 3 cups water to a boil, pour in the chamomile, cover and let steep 5 minutes. Strain and serve.
  2. Add honey to taste.

Cinnamon Tea (Té de Canela):

  1. Place water and cinnamon in a medium-sized sauce pan and bring to a boil. Let boil for approximately 3 to 5 minutes and remove from heat.
  2. Let steep for an additional 30 minutes, or to taste based on strength desired. Add honey to taste. Serve warm.
